29 Mar A cup of coffee with Sabine Ott
Sabine Ott will be part of Take PARCOURS with her project “Spiegelei”. She invited me to her apartment, which looks like one of those artsy homes on tumblr. We talked about her latest project and why she is looking forward to be a part of TAKE.
Tell me about your project. What can people expect?
It’s a fried egg dress and it was used as a scenery for my show called Ott Couture, which took place at Fluc + Fluc Wanne in October. It’s actually a big parachute that was worn by the singer and the host was wearing the egg yolk.
What was the funniest thing about creating this project?
(Sabine shows me pictures of the massive dress being laid out on the street before she starts talking about how she is going to make use of our location, the Alte Post.)
I am going to paint both, the room and the floor white. The dress will be in the center of this small, shabby room so that people will be attracted to the bright yellow color of the egg yolk.
That is going to look amazing!
I hope so! The lighting at the venue is incredible. My room will be right next to the gallery, which is quite narrow and dark so when people open the door to my room they will be quite surprised.
TAKE is all about fashion and arts. How would you describe the Viennese art scene?
I have always been in Vienna so I don’t know what the art scene is like in other cities but if you really want to achieve something in this industry you need to just go for it.
How do you feel about being a part of TAKE?
I’m excited! I absolutely love the Alte Post.
What advice do you have for people who are trying to make a career in this industry?
Well, I can tell you how you should NOT do it (laughs). You know, it’s really tough to be honest but I think that as long as you love what you do nothing else matters.
What are your plans for 2016?
I am going to take part in a group exhibition, which will be organized by Steirischer Herbst in Mürzzuschlag and I am also invited to go to a symposium, which will be in summer. Besides, I have salons called Ott Couture, which are held at my apartment.
Sounds like a busy year!
Yes, and my book just came out! It’s called Fragile and it basically looks like you’re scrolling trough my apartment. The photos were taken at eye level because my apartment is like a private museum (smiles).
